The week is not quite over, but the team says it has been a marvelous experience. They discovered an opportunity to get into the schools in the area and plan a trip in the fall to go back to do movie evangelism and speak in the schools. It is interesting to know that the schools know that an invitation to trust Christ will be offered and they agreed. Pray for Revival among students in Barbados!

Hal and wife, Cheryl have opened their hearts to the team and the week will be long remembered. We enjoyed a lively worship service and enjoyed the fellowship. They freely express their worship and I suppose the best way to describe it is that "they worship all over"! Everyone sings! Everyone participates! It was a rewarding experience and we surely felt we came close to God.

On Sunday afternoon we had a Prayer Walk in the areas we planned to saturate with the Gospel. On Monday we began our work through Thursday and then ended our week with the showing of the movie "Facing the Giants".

Pastor and Mrs. Taylor and all the church family were very kind and generous. This is our second time to work with them and we plan to continue as we follow up with leader training and discipleship.

This is a great opportunity for us to partner with them as we both seek to serve our Lord.

The team consisted of Thomas and Linda, Billy and Beth, and Clarence and Marie.

Pray for Revival in Barbados!

SC Church Conference

The Strategy Coordinating Church Conference was a great experience in Barbados. We will have two trips in January and at least one trip in February, March , April, October and November. Our Team Leaders are busy now enlisting team members for their trip. If you are reading this and God impresses you to at least ask some questions, please do not hesitate to contact me. You can email me, thomas@GO-Caribbean.org, call me at the church (770.922.2027) or my cell phone (404.213.5285).

On Monday night, we had a prayer/evaluation/planning meeting with our Team Leaders and all Team Leaders are planning to return for 2009. We all agreed it was a great experience, but that is not WHY we are planning to return. We are committed to fulfilling this part of Acts 1:8 challenge, to go to the "ends of the earth". ("But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth."). We are also actively involved in our Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria. We have chosen Barbados to fulfill our commitment to "...ends of the earth". Sure, we receive blessings, but we are simply seeking to follow God's mission madate for us.

GO Caribbean Overview:
GO Caribbean Gospel Saturation is an effort to place the Gospel of John or Gospel of Matthew, a Gospel tract and other information about a local church in every home in the Caribbean, beginning with Barbados. We will seek to identify “Men of Peace.” These are individuals who become Christians, or request Bible studies or visits.

The focus is on sowing and saturating the islands with the Gospel.

There is an emphasis on follow-up which involves planting, watering, and reaping by other groups after the GO Caribbean team leaves. We accomplish our part of the saturation process and leave the results to God, and the local Bajan Baptists.

We knock on doors with boldness because we have already Prayer Walked the area and prayed for the people living inside every home. We ask God to use our efforts to reach people.

As an evangelistic outrreach, we show the movie, Facing the Giants, on Sunday night for the church family and then we reach out into the community and invite everyone to the movie on Friday night. We had 15 decisions for Christ in September. Pastors and churches are mentoring these new Christians.

Team members must have a valid USA passport kept on your person at all times. On the flight to Barbados, you will fill out a tourist info card that you will present upon arrival at Barbados.

A team consists of 6 adults. Over age 18 preferred, under age 15 not allowed.

Minimum Experience Required: Active Prayer Life. Required Qualifications: None.

Health Considerations: What factors would influence the individual’s health and ability to do this job? The project will involve walking in the designated Gospel Saturation areas. The person should not consider working with this type of project if they are not able to walk 3 to 4 hours per day during Prayer Walking and Gospel Distribution. Some projects involve walking in hot temperatures.

Immunizations: None required.

HOW MUCH WILL THE TRIP COST PER PERSON? No exact cost can be given, because airline tickets vary.

Approximate Cost...EXAMPLE only:
$750 airfare from Atlanta (up $250 since January)
$105 for housing
$200 for meals
$22 required IMB insurance
$275 rental transportation and gas

$1,352 is the approximate cost per person.

Everyone will pay their own expenses, including me. That is a lot of money that some people do not have available. Begin praying now about whether God wants you to faith Him in funding this trip. This is a great way to spend your money for the Kingdom! Your investment could make an eternal difference in someone's life, including your own.

Let me hear from you.

~ Thomas

P.S. You still have time to register for the Frontliners Conference at our church, October 17-18 led by IMB missionaries, Rick Jenkins, Gary and Sis Tufts and Chuck Johnson. We sent two teams to work with two churches, Emmanuel and People's Baptist Church. We learned a lot. Those two churches, knowing they were our first, were patient and helped us tremendously. We now have our schedule tweaked, have a better take on how to work with the churches and we know definitely that we must have participation of local members on our outreach teams. Toward the end of the first week, there was a day when we did not have local church members helping us in outreach because of miscommunication. We discovered that the Bajan people did not respond to us as well as they did when we had Bajan church members along with us. We felt this would happen, but now we KNOW that we must have participation and this is to be noted up front when we begin the process of working with a church.

GO-Caribbean is a take-off of GO Mexico and other GO (Gospel Outreach) projects. I used a lot of materials from other IMB missionaries to put together GO Caribbean training materials and forms. We understand that our objective is to "sow the seed of the Gospel" and to claim the promise, "...My Word will not return empty!" However, we also show the movie, "Facing the Giants" a couple of times during the week. It has proven to be a great evangelistic tool and God used it in those two weeks to see 15 people come to Jesus as Savior. Pastors will follow up on each person who came forward those nights. During the week we also encourage team members to share the Gospel, as God leads, when talking with people. Barbadian people are very friendly and received us well. They have a little different "twist" to the English language, but they are easily understood.

I believe God will use GO Caribbean in an even greater way as more people get involved in this ministry. We need people who have a passion for missions to go as a team member and then consider going back once a year as a TEAM LEADER. If you are interested, please contact me at 770.922.2027 or email me thomas@GO-Caribbean.org.

REMEMBER...we will host an IMB Frontliners Conference on Friday and Saturday, October 17-18. We will begin with a dinner at 6 PM and session to follow. We will continue on Saturday with breakfast at 8:30 and session to end at noon. The registration cost is $10 and covers all meals and materials. Call the church, 770.922.2027 to register.

We are now planning a minimum of 6 teams for 2009, beginning with two weeks in January. Let me know if you are interested or have questions.

~ Thomas

GA Snow Day In Barbados!

Yesterday in Barbados was sort of like a Conyers snow day. We have so little snow in the metro area that when it does snow, everything shuts down. That's the way it was in Barbados yesterday. You can see the flooded roadway to the mission house in the picture.

Below is the note I received early today from Jason.

"We had a “rain day” in Barbados (think snow day in Georgia). It started raining around 6:00 am and continued to rain off and on all day. The roads into the Baptist College flooded, as did many of the major intersections on the island. The schools closed early and most of the island shut down. Tony came by to check on us and to warn us not to try to go out. Pastor Sam also called to call off our outreach for the afternoon. He also suggested that handing out literature on Friday would be too late to get people to the movie, so we are effectively done with the Gospel Saturation effort and will wrap up with the movie on Friday. He suggested that we use the free time to pray for those who already have packets and for those who made decisions last night. We were a little disappointed at the loss of a day, but we made the most of it and spent two hours in group prayer this afternoon.

The rain did bring a welcome cooling in temperature, although the humidity is a bit higher (if that’s even possible). We are hoping that the rain is over for now and that the roads will be dry enough tomorrow to venture out to the beach in the morning before meeting back at People’s Baptist Church at 5:00 PM for a debriefing session with Pastor Taylor.

Pray that the weather cooperates tomorrow and that the rain does not keep people from coming to the movie. Also pray that any obstacles and distractions are removed so that the message is clearly communicated".

We continue to pray for the team, their travel safety and the showing of the movie tonight. We want God to be honored and set up the conditions in our lives that He might be honored in and through us. Praise the LORD!

~ Thomas

It's Pouring in Barbados...

The heavy rain started around 7 AM and a lot of water has fallen. May God lead ALL of us to have that desire.

The team working with People's Baptist in Barbados continue to see God working in marvelous ways. Yesterday there were 6 church members working with the team going out door-to-door placing packets in the homes and inviting them to the movie, "Facing the Giants".

Today, pray that God would open doors to allow the team to accomplish what He desires. We consider it a joy to have the privilege to be able to fulfill this part of Acts 1:8, namely, to go to the ends of the earth to be His witnesses. For us, Barbados is the "ends of the earth."

We do the same type of Gospel Outreach in our communities and we seek God's leadership as we reach out to our "Jerusalem."

If you have a desire to be part of this ministry, don't hesitate to contact me: tbroadhead@hhbcga.org or check out the website: http://www.go-caribbean.org/. Pray for Clarence and Marie, Gene and Kay and Jason and Toni that God will bless their ministry this week in that area of Barbados.

Things to pray about: (1) pray that the sowing of the seed of the Gospel will be successful (2) pray that God will call out Bajan Christians to help in the harvest (3) pray that God will use the movie, "Facing the Giants" as an evangelistic tool to lead people to trust Jesus (4) pray that the team will adjust to the heat (5) pray that God's will and purpose will be accomplished in all of our lives and that we will see more and more people involved in missions, maybe even GO-Caribbean.

If you are interested in learning more, check out our website: http://www.go-caribbean.org/.

~ Thomas

Emmanuel Baptist Church...Mission Accomplished!

We concluded our week with Emmanuel Baptist Church on Friday night, September 12. We spent the week going door-to-door along with some church members and covered many homes in their area distributing the Gospel of John, a salvation tract and info about Emmanuel Baptist. It was a great time of "sowing the seed". We also presented the movie, "Facing the Giants". There were two young adults who trusted Christ on Friday evening. Pray for Jeffrey and Mary as they start their new journey as Christians and pray that God will use Emmanuel Baptist to help them grow and mature as new believers.

Pastor Wood and the church family received us graciously and made us feel very much welcomed into their church. We made friends with several church members and cherished the time we were able to spend with them. We discovered that the church is an evangelistic church and our ministry was an encouragement to them and they to us. It was truly a great partnership.

The pastor has requested that we return and we will have further discussions as to the nature of our next trip in January 2009.

~ Thomas
www.GO-Caribbean.org

Hours Are Counting Down!

The hours are counting down and we will be leaving at 2:30 AM. There will be no sleep tonight because everyone is scurrying around trying to take care of those last details whether on the job or at home.

We believe God is going to do His work this week coming and we ask that you pray for us. We are taking a lot of supplies such as 5,000 Gospels of John, 5,000 Gospel tracts, and 5,000 leaflets about the churches we will be working with to hand out in our door-to-door Gospel Saturation project. We will be taking a projector for the showings of "Facing the Giants" in three different churches over the two weeks. Would you pray that God will anoint this message and decisions will be made for Christ? Pray that we will get through customs without incident as well as making our connecting flights on time. We had our last planning meeting tonight and we are ready to GO! We distributed the materials we are carrying and each is doing their part. Hopefully our plane can carry a big load because that is exactly what we have.

Our Frontliners Conference is scheduled for October 17-18, Friday night and Saturday morning, at Heritage Hills Baptist Church. We have a dinner on Friday night, the conference to follow and a continental breakfast on Saturday morning. The conference will end by noon. The registration fee of $10 includes the meals and materials.

IMB Missionaries, Rick Jenkins and Chuck Johnson will be leading the conference. Our major emphasis will be on the MACRegion. You will learn specifically about GO Caribbean Gospel Saturation, a project designed to saturate the Caribbean Islands with prayer and place the Gospel of John and other evangelistic materials in every household.
It is an effort to help Bajans understand that salvation is in Jesus alone. Our plan is to begin in Barbados with volunteer teams from Heritage Hills Baptist Church and teams from all over the United States to partner with Bajan Baptist Believers. Together, these teams Prayer Walk and go door to door to distribute the Gospel. Following each project, our desire is that a Bible study will begin in the area so new believers can be mentored and discipled. We will also seek to identify “Men of Peace.” These are individuals who become Christians, or request Bible studies or visits...More

If you would like more info about Frontliners Conference, feel free to contact me, thomas@GO-Caribbean.org 770.922.2027

~ Thomas
www.GO-Caribbean.org

Check Out People's Baptist Page!

The second week, September 13-20, the team will work with Pastor Sam and the People's Baptist Church. The first team will partner with Emmanuel Baptist Church September 6-13. Those members are: Thomas and Linda, Billy and Beth, Clarence and Marie. We will be staying in the mission house on the Barbados Baptist College and Training Centre campus. It is within walking distance of the Atlantic Ocean and sits in the middle of sugar cane and cotton fields. When we were in Barbados last March, they were harvesting both cotton and sugar cane. Because the weather remains constant year round, they have more than one harvest. We saw banana plantations and beautiful blue ocean coasts.

The second team will partner with Peoples Baptist Church September 13-20. Those members are: Clarence and Marie, Gene and Kay, Jason and Toni. When we were there in March, they were completing renovation to the worship center and it was looking great.

Our desire is to plant the seed of the Gospel. We will go door-to-door meeting the people and leaving packets about the church. We will also give everyone a Gospel of John and depend on God's promise, "My Word will not return empty." Our desire is to have opportunity to share the Gospel and see people trust Christ as Savior!

If you would be interested in discussing your potential role as a team member for 2009, feel free to contact me: thomas@GO-Caribbean.org

~ Thomas

www.GO-Caribbean.org

GO Caribbean...Pass the word.

We are beginning to have contacts from other states with interest in GO Caribbean. This mission effort is not just for Heritage Hills Baptist Church, but for anyone who feels God is leading them to help us in our mission. I am thankful that our church is underwriting the cost of the Gospels and all full-color printing we will use in the packets that will be placed in homes. Be sure to contact me with your questions.

The first three teams are filled and we need more people who can go with us and be willing to prayerfully consider going back as a Team Leader. This would be a great project for a pastor or other staff member who helps us as Team Leader and then take a group from your church or association. None of us can go every trip and until the IMB places someone on the field who can do that, we must rely on all volunteer help. You might pass this info on to your pastor or DOM in your association. They might be interested in being part of this mission effort.

If you go with us your life will never be the same again. If you have never been on an international mission trip, you whole world view changes and you become more aware of the need for world-wide missions. Don't forget, however, that to go to Barbados is simple an avenue for God to use you in "ends of the earth" missions. We do the Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria missions as well back home.

Trip costs have changed a little. As you know, airfare has increased, so that is going to cost a little more. When I flew to Barbados back in April, the cost was $498 from Atlanta. I checked a couple weeks ago and it had increased about $150. I would think that the higher cost will be with us for some time. However, there will be no cost for lodging for the 9 trips scheduled in 2008. Meal cost should be minimal. We will eat breakfast continental style, lunch at a restaurant and dinner back at the house consisting of something simple like a sandwich. The only other cost will be mandatory IMB insurance for $2.75 per day and any personal items purchased.

I am awaiting word from Chuck, IMB Regional Volunteer Strategist, regarding the use of the IMB van. If we are allowed to use the van, the only cost we will have will be for gasoline. Otherwise, to rent a van will add about $175 per person for the week.

Please be praying for the mission. Our first trips are planned for September. We want to be sure we follow God's will and purpose. Pray for Barbados. Pray that the people will be receptive to us and the power of God will be evident. Pray for pastors and their effectiveness in getting their churches prepared and ready for our coming. We have asked pastors to have a special day on Sunday with a church-wide pot-luck meal and to contact every member and prospect and invite them to be present. It could be a great day as we kick off each Gospel Saturation week in each church. Pray that the Prayer Walk on Sunday afternoon will be effective and the evangelistic movie presentation can be used to reach people for Christ. Also, please pray that pastors will be able to encourage some of their members to team up with us to do Gospel Saturation. It will be a great time of witness as well as fellowship for us as we get to know Bajan Christians.

Pray for revival in Barbados! The dates are September 6-13. The team is set with Thomas and Linda, Billy and Beth, and Charlie and Sandy.

Emmanuel Baptist is the largest Baptist church on the island and Pastor Wood is the only full-time Baptist pastor. We look forward to working with him and the people of his church. It is going to be exciting as we partner to sow the Gospel in their neighborhoods.

We are struggling with the increased cost of airfares and hope this will not deter many people. We have actually got enough interest to man the first three teams.

As you pray for GO Caribbean, if you feel led to be a part of our work, let me know and I can answer your questions.

Pray for revival in Barbados!

~ Thomas
www.GO-Caribbean.org

The Beginning!

GO Caribbean is a project designed to saturate the Caribbean Islands with prayer and place the Gospel of John and other evangelistic materials in every household. We call it Gospel Saturation or GO Outreach and will begin first on the island of Barbados. Following each project, Bible studies will begin in the area so new believers can be mentored and discipled. We will also seek to identify “Men of Peace.” These are individuals who become Christians, or request Bible studies or visits...More

Each team will consist of 6-7 members with one serving as the Team Leader. To become a Team Leader, you must first be part of a team in order to get the training necessary as well as being familiar with the island.

Each Team Leader will be responsible for making all airfare arrangements, travel insurance, and will train all members of the team using the Manual For Go Caribbean Volunteers.

Plans are already in action to have our first 3 GO teams go to Barbados beginning September 6. Each team will arrive Barbados on Saturday and depart the following Saturday.

Pray that God would direct us and that we will follow His plan for GO Caribbean. We are trusting God to fulfill His promise related to the harvest field. There are people out there who are ready to receive the gospel. We are asking that God will use us to draw them to Him.

If you are interested in being a part of GO Caribbean, be sure to check out the website: http://www.go-caribbean.org/ or email me at thomas@GO-Caribbean.org.

~ Thomas

www.GO-Caribbean.org
